I thought the movies we saw today were very interesting. The aspect of duration was very prevalent in both movies. I have personally waited for a subway but when I waited, I waited a very long time. It was a duration exercise. I also did not know exactly where or what I was doing but while waiting I remember having a bunch of subways pass. It seemed much darker in the subway in Washington DC because it is all concrete not like the tile in the movie. It was also a lot cleaner. In the movie the subway full of graffiti and was very dirty, it seemed very similar in most other ways. People keeping to themselves, but looking around the car. Everyone people watched and moving around all the time. Stopping every few minutes some people getting off people getting on and not that much talking just like the movie.
My car rides now consist of more music playing however there are lots of random thoughts that get thrown around, like people with broken arms on the street, fat friends, talk of famous people. The car driving is a little different I the style of roads and type of driving but the overall conversation was similar to my car rides.
The car ride and the subway ride are perfect representations of duration because they are long and very boring. I think both movies showed how boring and long they are.
The movie was so long that I felt I had a nothing moment. The moment about half way through the Ackerman movie I suddenly woke up if you want to call it that. I was like what was I ding where had I been what happened around me. I felt like I just woke up from a nap. Could I have been tapping into my unconscious? I did not remember anything but it was a weird feeling. Like when you are in a blank.
But back to the movies. The duration in the movies and the real thing were very similar. I never noticed the duration aspect of car rides or subways. I would never have thought of subway and car rides as duration or what I used to think of duration was. In the Ackerman film the duration was more boring. I value the duration in a subway more because it is something I don’t do everyday while the car duration I could not take watching. I enjoyed the Ackerman movie much more even thought it was a longer duration I value it more because it interests.
